William Ramsey Elevator Addition
The elevator addition at William Ramsay Elementary School is part of an accessibility and building modernization initiative to ensure the school fully complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and meets the needs of all students, staff, and visitors. The project introduces a new, fully enclosed, two-stop elevator centrally located to provide barrier-free access between key academic and administrative areas.
The design integrates the new elevator seamlessly with the existing school architecture, using compatible materials, finishes, and detailing to respect the building’s character while providing a functional and modern amenity. Site and building modifications include reconfigured corridors for improved circulation, upgraded lighting, and security measures to enhance safety.
In addition to accessibility improvements, the project addresses life safety and building code compliance through fire-rated construction, updated alarms, and clear egress routes. Mechanical, electrical, and structural systems are carefully coordinated to support the elevator installation without disrupting daily school operations.
The elevator addition will creates a more inclusive and equitable learning environment, ensuring that all members of the William Ramsay Elementary School community have full and dignified access to the school’s facilities.
