VTS Facility Housing
The historic Virginia Theological Seminary, one of the oldest seminaries in the country, commissioned Cole & Denny Architects to plan a new faculty housing complex on the school’s 50-acre site. The design provides for six semi-detached, single-family units arranged so that each has its own identity and separate frontage. Each 2,700 SF unit has a partial basement, three bedrooms, two full baths and a single-car garage.
The design for the new units reflects the character of the existing 19th century residences on the campus with decorative wooden trim, multi-paned windows and porches or verandahs.
The semi-detached residences share a single wall, but are oriented so that their entrances face in different directions, providing both individuality and privacy for the tenants.
The buildings are the first LEED-Certified single family residences in Alexandria.
