West Ox Animal Shelter
This project transforms the site of the original shelter into a new, central 26,600-SF facility providing state-of-the-art housing and veterinary care for 65 dogs, 104 cats, and a variety of reptiles, birds, and other mammals. Cole & Denny Architects designed the building to remain operational throughout phased construction while incorporating community meeting facilities, a veterinary clinic, and offices for the county’s Animal Control division.
The facility features a “retail” approach to promote pet adoption and educate the public on animal care and well-being. Large, welcoming lobbies, meeting rooms, and visitation areas provide attractive, functional spaces for public interaction. Sustainable design strategies were integrated throughout, supporting the building’s LEED-Gold certification.
