McDowell Hall Renovation
Cole & Denny Architects provided a detailed Feasibility Study, Construction Documents and Construction Administration Services to improve deficiencies in the 275-year old, 25,000 SF academic building, the fifth-oldest building in the city’s National Register precinct. The firm services including coordinating approval of the city’s Architectural Review Board and an accelerated construction schedule.
As an iconic fixture of the college, maintaining the original character of the spaces and traditional features such as the blackboards, was a primary objective of the renovation.
The building had systemic problems with the HVAC system, lack of accessible toilet facilities and access to upper levels, as well as deteriorated floors and finishes throughout.
